Quality is as precious as life itself

Yili puts product quality at the top of its agenda. Aiming to produce 100% safe and healthy dairy products, Yili has upgraded its strategic management work to the “top quality assurance 3210 strategy”, centering on the manufacturing of dairy products with the world’s best quality. Yili keeps on upgrading its global quality management system and extends the strict quality control standard throughout the global industrial links, to avoid food safety accidents.

On the one hand, Yili seeks conformity with international standards. Its strategic cooperation with SGS, LRQA and Intertek has continuously updated Yili’s global quality and safety management systems and enhanced its capability in food quality and safety risk control. Yili has set up a flawless Internet-based product traceability procedure. A breeding document for a milk cow is created after its birth by Yili’s milk source base. A visualized GPS tracking is conducted throughout the whole process of the transportation of the raw milk. Finally, a bar code is labeled on the bags of raw milk and scanned; then, it is sent into Yili’s milk factory and randomly numbered and inspected. At the same time, Yili has developed a lot of product information tracking forms during the manufacturing process, using an electronic information entry system for crucial links, a comprehensive integrated system for quality management information, and a national ERP networking system. By doing so, Yili has achieved the thoroughness, timeliness, and informatization of production information traceability and exchanged data with national-level platforms.

On the other hand, Yili is the only dairy producer that controls the three major bases of top quality milk resources in Inner Mongolia and the northeastern parts of China. Yili's top dairy farms ensure the quality and quantity of steady raw-milk supply. Yili also integrates global high-quality milk resources in Europe, Oceania and America, to better meet consumers' demands for high-quality dairy products. Up to now, all the raw milk cooperative suppliers of Yili Group have achieved large-scale and standardized farming.

Responsibility means contributing to the community

Yili firmly believes that “balance is key and responsibility comes first.” In 2017, Yili upgraded its corporate social responsibility management system and turned its “Healthy China Social Responsibility (CSR) System” into a future-oriented “World Integrally Sharing Health Corporate Sustainable Development (CSD) System,” or the “WISH” system, reflecting Yili’s wish for a beautiful life for all of its consumers. Specifically, the “WISH” system is an essential manifestation of Yili's benchmarking and implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It integrates the 9 SDGs with Yili’s 4 specific action areas to fulfill the company’s sustainable development goals: a Win-win industrial chain (W: Win-win), Quality and Innovation (I: Innovation), Social Welfare (S: Social), and Nutrition and Health (H: Health).

Together with the Western China Hunan Resources Development Foundation, the Chinese Red Cross Foundation, the media outlets across the country and NGOs, Yili created the Yili Ark, a project dedicated to the training on child development safety. Over the past 6 years, Yili Ark has sailed through 25 provinces and municipalities across the country and delivered 70 safety training on nearly 20 prevention issues, including trafficking, sexual assault, earthquake, fire, drowning, violence, trampling, road safety and daily safety, directly benefitting more than 200,000 kids, teachers and parents. In addition, Yili takes the lead in the formation of a “green industrial chain”, pursuing the harmonious co-existence and win-win among nature, the community, the public and the business partners, to create a “green ecological circle” featuring sustainable development for the whole industrial chain.

Yili has also explored industrial chain finance and new modes of training for dairy farmers, so as to give more support to dairy farmers and cultivate the development of modern pastures. Since the establishment of the Yili Milk Cow School in 2010, Yili has invited more than hundred of the world’s leading industry experts and organized more than 300 farm management specialized trainings and seminars, and more than 10,000 on-site technical guidance for dairy farms, imparting cow breeding skills to dairy farmers, promoting whole crop silage and total mixed ration (TMR) feeding technologies, and teaching measures such as the construction of standardized beds and preparation of water troughs.

In recent years, Yili has leveraged its Milk Cow School platform, actively integrating international quality resources, and comprehensively upgraded the training mode of modern farming talents. It developed online courses covering the production of silage, health management, milk quality, heatstroke prevention, and warm-keeping and has provided training to more than 10,000 suppliers. In 2016, Yili further strengthened its Milk Cow School platform to help dairy farmers increase the daily yield of dairy cows from 20.61 kg in 2014 to 27.60 kg. In 2017, while reducing the average breeding cost by 10%, it cut the cost of producing milk from 3.65 yuan/kg to 3.15 yuan/kg, which contributed to an additional income of over RMB 3 billion for dairy farmers.

In the future, Yili Group will continue to provide healthy foods, advocate a healthy lifestyle, and lead the healthy development of the dairy industry. Yili will continue to nourish for life and strengthen the international voice of the Chinese dairy industry and the global influence of Chinese brands.
